Seeking Counseling?
What can I expect to happen at counseling?
 
The initial consultation consists of some based forms to complete
 
Second you will meet your counselor that will disclose the policies, ethics, laws and fees of the Center.
 
Third you will answer a few health intake questions.
 
Fourth you will explain to your counselor why you are seeking counseling and areas of concerns.
 
Fifth you will interview your counselor to find out their experience is in working with your kind of situation, their beliefs and standards.
 
Lastly you will be given sometime to review the agencies polices and procedures to let your counselor know if you want to proceed with the services.
 
Should I only look for Christian counseling?
Seeking a counselor is like seeking your primary physican. You want someone who is competent and experienced

Bates Counseling BCS, is a non-denominational, Christ-based Counseling Agency, that has been established to help restore and strengthen the lives of individuals and families in our community with uncompromising truths and biblical principals. Our agency’s foundation is based on a sound biblical structure and ethical premise.
 

Sound Biblical System/Analysis:

There must be an extensive Biblical theology supporting counseling delivery.
 

Methodology and Structure:

The method must include specific steps or procedures for sessions.
 

Terminology:

Any terms or phraseology should have substantial Biblical basis.
 

Ethical Premise:

Christ-based Counselors have a specific code of ethics, or standards of conduct.
 
Professional Considerations

 
Psychiatrist.
These individuals have M.D. after their name, and are medical doctors or physicians. In addition to psychotherapy, they are trained and licensed to prescribe medicine. In most states, psychiatrists are the only mental health professional who may prescribe medicine.
 
Psychologist.
These individuals may have one of several credentials, including, Ph.D. (doctorate of philosophy), Psy.D. (doctorate of psychology) or Ed.D. (doctorate of education). In most cases these mental health professionals provide counseling and psychological testing. Most states do not permit psychologists to prescribe medications.
 
Counselor.
These individuals most often have master degrees in various disciplines, including psychology, counseling and social work. Some of the credentials include AMLP (Advanced Mastery Licensed Professional Counselor), CCBC (Certified Christ-based Counselor), L.P.C.C. (Licensed Professional Christian Counselor), L.P.C. (State Licensed Professional Counselor), N.C.C. (National Certified Counselor), and L.C.S.W. (State Licensed Clinical Social Worker).
